About

Hailing from Lafayette, Louisiana, Papa Jay and Annie May Stevens have been a part of California’s Central Coast for over a decade.  Papa Jay’s Southern Que Zine Restaurant in Guadalupe opened its doors in 2016 to rave reviews.

Seriously?! As a central coast native, you guys/gals, hands down, have some of the most flavorful foods EVER, and best service around! You made my family feel at home, and made all our bellys feel oh so well. We will most certainly be back! Ton of locals would come in and order as we sat in, and loved watching/being apart of their convos. An “upscale” meal VS soul food? Zero comparison. Papa Jays definitly takes the cake! All food options are so worthy, FYI!!

With a current 4.9 out of 5 rating on Facebook (over 50 reviews) and a 4.5 out of 5 on Yelp (Over 100 reviews), it remains one of the best kept secrets on the Central Coast.  This year, Papa Jay is rolling out something new…seasonings and sauces!  First out of the gates is Papa Jay’s Magic Dust a Louisiana Creole/Cajun Seasoning that goes on just about everything you can think of!  Meats, Seafood, Salad…get creative and get eatin’!  Coming soon…Papa Jay’s BBQ Sauce, Tartar Sauce, and best of all….Annie May’s Sweet Tea!  A true taste of the Bayou.

It was such a great experience. The food was fantastic. The people were so friendly. We shared gumbo, catfish, shrimp, cornbread, Mac and cheese, French bread, and sweet tea. It was all exceptionally good. We will definitely go back.
